Talk: This richly illustrated lecture will focus on European fascination with Islamic cultural and intellectual refinement during the Middle Ages and explore why Dante placed some Muslims with the virtuous pagans and others with the sowers of discord in his monumental work about the afterlife.

Presenter: Dr. Tamara Albertini is a Swiss-American Professor and Chair of Philosophy at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa, specializing in Renaissance and Islamic thought. Dr. Albertini has a Lic.phil. from the University of Basel (Switzerland) and a Dr.phil. from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich (Germany). She is a Fulbright scholar and the recipient of numerous national and international awards.
