Italy and Hawaii share a similar pace of living, sense of community, stunning landscapes of mountains and seas, and a strong connection to water. This journey explores our home away from home through a series of underwater photographs celebrating the thriving ocean and the life within it. Photographer Chiara Salomoni will share her journey through the depths, with a focus on the incredible squalo (manō) — or shark—the heartbeat of this presentation. She will share how she coexists with sharks as an underwater photographer, learning when to photograph, when to dive, and when to wait for what is about to happen. Sharks communicate through their eyes—they will let you know their boundaries, while challenging you to both confront and expand your own. Beyond fear, beauty awaits. Dive in.

Presenter: Photographer Chiara Salomoni was born in Italy and now lives in Haleiwa. She has dedicated her life to art and nature. After studying fine arts in Milan (Italy) and photography in Santa Barbara (California), she specialized in underwater megafauna, portraits, and fashion. After years working in the world of scuba diving, she is now dedicating herself to the world of freediving and works mainly with sharks in Hawaiian waters.
